Pioneering work for organic hops

The Eckert family has always run their farm in Herpersdorf as a ‘typical Franconian mixed farm’ with dairy farming, cereal cultivation, potatoes, beetroot and tobacco. In 1987, the parents of farm manager Markus Eckert switched to organic farming. Today, Eckert cultivates a good 50 hectares of organic hops, supplemented by around 15 hectares of organic apples as a second mainstay. Since 2022, he has been processing his hops in his own facility and thus has complete control over the organic quality of his hops.
